Safeguarding Resources

Please be aware that the process of discussing and writing submissions for FNMT's celebration of poetry and lyrics for the National Poetry Day 2023 theme of 'Refuge' may provoke strong reactions amongst young people, often based on their own experiences, many of which may be ongoing.

Please discuss the implications of this amongst fellow professionals and your safeguarding team (if you have on within your organisation) in readiness for working on the theme of ‘Refuge’ with your students and be prepared for those reactions, dealing with them proactively. Your safeguarding and pastoral teams may well want input ahead of your sessions as they may be privy to more information than you, especially about specific students.

Useful Publications

This guideline covers recognising, assessing and treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children, young people and adults. It aims to improve quality of life by reducing symptoms of PTSD such as anxiety, sleep problems and difficulties with concentration. Recommendations also aim to raise awareness of the condition and improve coordination of care.
